For Agnese Marsilii, an award-winning Indie Film Director, Cinematographer, and Writer, art has always been at the heart of her journey. Born in Italy, a country celebrated for its rich cultural and cinematic legacy, she has continually explored and expressed creativity through various artistic forms, ultimately finding her voice in filmmaking.

"I never went to Film School or considered a career in the Film Industry. Despite always being deeply creative, I struggled to find a way to channel that creativity until my mid-thirties. It was during the pandemic, experimenting with photography, that I found my true calling: making movies."

Her first film, the psychological thriller "BLOOM-  The Only Way Out Is Through” premiered at the Canadian Academy of Cinema and Television qualifying Film Festival TINFF 2024, where she was awarded Best Female Filmmaker USA, and nominated for Best Short Film, Best Short Film USA, and Best Cinematography. Alongside multiple other accolades for her work behind the camera, she received the Silver Award for Best Cinematography from the Independent Short Film Awards in Los Angeles, and the Award of Commendation from the Canada Shorts Film Festival. BLOOM was nominated Best First-Time Female Director at the “Indie Short Fest” in Los Angeles CA and was an official selection at the Montreal Independent Film Festival 2024.

Her determination led her to master photography before expanding into motion pictures as a multi-hyphenate. Her academic background in Communication and performing arts training helped refine her talent in Visual Communication.

What sets her apart is her ability to write, direct, and light a set with intention, combined with her familiarity with storyboarding, video editing, color grading, and sound design; she combines technical mastery with a creative vision that elevates every project. Wearing multiple hats enables her to collaborate effectively, adapt to challenges, and bring creative, out-of-the-box solutions to life in a positive and efficient way.

Agnese’s style, shaped by the concept of Pure Cinema, emphasizes imagery over dialogue. Like a painter with light, she favors a low-key aesthetic dominated by shadows, embracing a no-nonsense approach while meticulously curating every detail of the mise-en-scène.

Her inspiration comes from the work of iconic directors like Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick and Orson Welles, and Cinematographers like Gordon WillisBrendan Kuroki Uegama, Gordon Verheul, Glen Winter, Crescenzo Notarile and Vittorio Storaro.

Agnese lives in Boston, USA.

She has a Bachelor’s degree in Intercultural Communication and Linguistic.

She is a member of WIFVNE Women in Film and Video New England, and AFI American Film Institute.
